State FCCLA Conference, April 2013

Leslie August and two groups of her students worked hard all year planning, acting and carrying out projects to present at the FCCLA Conference recently.

Winning a GOLD and 1st place in National Programs in Action were: Jade Baker, Allison Gordon, and Natalia Seufali.



Winning a SILVER and 2nd place in Food Innovations were: Diana Sandoval, Arlene Dominguez and David Rodriguez.

Both groups are qualified to go to the National competition in Nashville, Tennessee in July.  Congratulations  to all of you for your achievements and good luck in your fundraising efforts to help you make it to Nashville. Well done.


State TSA Conference, Tuesday, March 19, 2013

Congratulations to Charlie Wardle and the 11 students who represented Dixon so well!
We earned 4 first place awards, 5 second place awards and 3 third place awards:

In Leadership Challenge: The team of Kassondra Rhoades, Saul Castillo-Saenz and Samantha Shulters took second place.

In the Inventions Innovations Challenge: The team of Talon Anderson, Davis Peterson and Christopher Hays won first place.

In Promotional Design: Samuel Swindler earned second place.

In Flight Challenge: Saul Castillo-Saenz earned second place, Victoria Stone earned third place.

In Multi Media: Samuel Swindler won first place.

In Engineering Structure: The team of Cody Strading and Caden Allen earned third place.

Well done all of you.

          Several Dixon students were recognized in the Letters About Literature Contest. These students wrote letters about books that have changed their lives or their views of the world. From 966 entries, eighth grader, Bethanie Wilde took second place in the state.  Her entry will get her $50. and will allow her to go on to the national competition. Bethanie wrote her letter about the Blue Sword by Robin McKinley. She will be recognized at an event in the Salt Lake City Library in May.
           Other Dixon students made it to the final round of judging in the 7th to 9th grade level of the competition. Eighth graders Katy Uhl, Alexa Ballard and Megan Orme and seventh graders David Friedbaum, Tori Thomas, Michelle Granados, Kach Koop, Josie Price, Anne Chambers, Savanna Smith and Maren Gordon also represented Dixon very favorably. Congratulations to all of you.



The Utah State TSA Conference was held on March 23rd. Dixon Middle School sent a team of 12 to compete and received 1 second place award and 5 third place awards. Well done students.


In the System Control contest, the team of Kenneth Brown, Lewis Castillo and Hunter Field earned a 2nd place award.
For the Flight Challenge competition Victoria Stone earned a 2nd place.
In the Invention and Innovations contest, the team of Chantilly Beaumont, Victoria Stone and Shaylee Lindsay earned a 3rd place award.
In the Communication Challenge Hunter Field earned a 3rd place award.
In the Leadership Challenge, the team of Kassondra Rhoades, Gracie Simmons and Chantilly Beaumont earned a 3rd place award.
In the Career Prep Challenge, Hunter field earned a 3rd place award

Our eighth grade students Katy Uhl and Megan Orme, were selected, out of a worldwide pool, to have their photos displayed in Adobe's Youth Gallery. This makes them eligible for an Adobe scholarship to help them in their study of digital media. Many of their photos can be viewed on Dixon's yearbook facebook page. Congratulations girls!

Dixon's Ballroom Team competed at Provo High DanceSport taking third and the Utah DanceSport Championships taking first in the Junior Ballroom Formation Division. This coming Saturday, March 10th they will be competing at the National Championships in the Marriott Center on B.Y.U. campus. Let's all give them a word of support and good wishes.
